We do use coffee to fuel our day.Coffee holds a great power in our modern society. There are many advantages of coffee. Like Coffee keeps us alert, increase productivity, reduce stress and keeps you trim. So the coffee is love.
But what if the same coffee fuel your car ? Shocked !! ? Yes, the coffee is the future fuel of car.Let us dig into the topic.
How it is possible ?
Companies are collecting the spent coffee grounds that are usually thrown into landfills, and extracting oil from that. The process is more environmental but a multistage and lengthy process. The researchers from Lancaster University say they’ve developed a more efficient method.
“Our novel process is in situ transesterification, which actually couples two processes – extraction and reaction – into one single step,” said Ms Vesna Najdanovic-Visak, a chemical engineering lecturer at Lancaster University.
The extracted fuel could go directly into tanks and realistically be blended in small amounts with other biofuels.
Future Fuel startup
Apart from the research of Lancaster University, Entrepreneur Arthur Kay’s have big ideas to use coffee as a future fuel. He started a company named Bio-Bean. According to a report, London’s coffee industry creates over 200,000 tonnes of waste every year, so what do we do with it?
Arthur Kay wants to turn 85 per cent of coffee waste into biofuels. This biofuels will be used to heating buildings and powering transport system of the future.
How Bio-bean works
Bio-bean collects the coffee grounds from the Cafe’ and restaurants and from the major coffee chains. They have many partner companies who help them to collect the coffee waste. Then Bio-bean recycles waste coffee grounds into biomass briquettes and pellets.
Some Products of Bio-bean :
Coffee Logs™ : Coffee Logs™ are high-performance, sustainable briquettes made from your recycled coffee grounds for use in stoves, fires and chimineas.
Biomass Pellets : Coffee pellets are carbon neutral biomass pellets used for heating buildings, a sustainable alternative to imported woody biomass.
Biodiesel : bio-bean has undertaken extensive research and development into the commercial application of biodiesel from waste coffee grounds.
So , we can say that the biodiesel from coffee beans will be the future fuel of Car.
